Salary tax in Nepal - how this calculator works

Salary income is taxed on the amount left after the allowed deductions. This calculator follows the individual (single) slabs for FY 2083-84 and FY 2082-83 and the common deductions: contributions to the SSF, EPF and Citizen Investment Trust, insurance premiums, tuition fee and the remote-area allowance. It shows the tax slab by slab, so you can check every figure.

FY 2082-83 is shown for a single taxpayer. Slabs, limits and rebates are set each year by the Finance Act - confirm the current figures with IRD, or ask Unifour, before you rely on a result for a return.

Ways to lower the tax legally

  • Contribute to a retirement fund or CIT - up to one-third of income (maximum Rs 5,00,000) is deducted, and the first slab becomes 0%.
  • Pay life, health and building insurance premiums up to their limits; the calculator shows how much room is left.
  • Keep the premium and fee receipts - the employer or you need them to claim the deduction.

Frequently asked questions

Which fiscal year does this cover?

FY 2083-84 (2026/27) and FY 2082-83 (2025/26) for a single taxpayer. Pick the year at the top; the other year is shown for comparison.

Why is the first slab 0% when I contribute to a fund?

Under the salary tax rules the first slab is taxed at 0% (instead of the 1% social security tax) when the person contributes to the SSF, an approved provident fund or CIT. The calculator applies this automatically.

How is the employer's contribution treated?

The employer's share of SSF or EPF is added to your income and then deducted again within the retirement fund limit, so it does not raise your tax on its own.

Is this the tax my employer will deduct?

It is a close estimate of the yearly tax. The employer deducts it month by month and may use different assumptions, for example for bonuses. Use it to plan, and check the final figure with your employer or Unifour.
